Introduction to the illustrations section

The original edition of the Snark included nine drawings by Henry Holiday printed full page and two further illustrations by Holiday reproduced on the covers. The Ocean Chart (on page 17) is set in type and not an illustration by Holiday. The titles used in here are based on those established by Charles Mitchell in the ‘Kaufmann Snark’ (details will be given in the forthcoming Bibliography section).
